Following the wisdom of “prevention is better than cure”, I decided to do a simple DIY mod for my Toyota Aqua. This is mainly a preventive measure to reduce the dust build-up on the hybrid fan filter on my 2015 Aqua, as it doesn’t have the air filters which are present on other models such as the C-HR.
Tools/Items Required
- Scissors – to cut up the air filter
- Rubber/elastic band – I used recycled bands that come with the masks which everyone was using during the COVID-19 pandemic
- Thin air filter – I got them off Shopee. Try not to use a thick air filter, as having a thicker air filter affects the air intake by the hybrid battery fan.
Steps
- First, remove the cover to the hybrid battery fan below the seat. There are many YouTube videos out on the internet, but here’s a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep7wcAV_KOI
- Measure and cut the air filter to size. The air filter is roughly 11.5cm in diameter
- Once done, put the cover back
Et voila, a cheap air filter!
