DIY Hybrid Fan Air Filter for Toyota Prius C/Aqua

Following the wisdom of “prevention is better than cure”, I decided to do a simple DIY mod for my Toyota Aqua. This is mainly a preventive measure to reduce the dust build-up on the hybrid fan filter on my 2015 Aqua, as it doesn’t have the air filters which are present on other models such as the C-HR.

Tools/Items Required

  1. Scissors – to cut up the air filter
  2. Rubber/elastic band – I used recycled bands that come with the masks which everyone was using during the COVID-19 pandemic
  3. Thin air filter – I got them off Shopee. Try not to use a thick air filter, as having a thicker air filter affects the air intake by the hybrid battery fan.

Steps

  1. First, remove the cover to the hybrid battery fan below the seat. There are many YouTube videos out on the internet, but here’s a good one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ep7wcAV_KOI
  2. Measure and cut the air filter to size. The air filter is roughly 11.5cm in diameter
  1. Once done, put the cover back

Et voila, a cheap air filter!
